My elevator pitch/business in a nutshell ...
App Guys Inc. is a new media corporation that uses their global team of mobile app and website developers to help take your ideas and turn them into your reality. We help you identify what your target market is missing and then fill that void with a product that solves their needs and increases your ROI.
What do I like most about being a member of The Commons?
The fastest wireless internet I have ever experienced in a co-work setting! That’s true…but in all seriousness - it’s the people. Being surrounded each day by entrepreneurs and small business owners; feeling their energy; seeing how they conquer their dreams; forming friendships and business relationships. We are all separate businesses with different goals…but somehow, it still feels like one large team of people working closely together to help each other succeed. Oh….and we can’t forget the free Cheerios and coffee at the office…..that’s also pretty awesome! :)
What is a challenging part of what I do on a day-to-day basis?
Coming up with ideas to help clients solve problems they have identified…and to also figure out what some problems are that we haven’t identified yet. Each night I am falling asleep thinking about problems and how to solve them.
Then the favorite part of my day happens ...
I get to the office in the morning, many times without having solved problems in my dreams - and I connect with my direct team members through Skype and learn how they solved some of my problems overnight while I slept. I have many great teams that I trust completely and I am lucky for that.
The problem I feel like I solve for my clients most often ...
Trust and Comfort when it comes to spending their hard earned money on things like apps and websites. There is a lot of bad taste still in our industry. There is the situation where someone uses someone’s neighbours kid to do their website for a few hundred bucks….then there is the situation when someone uses a big corporate company in a big city because they have 1000’s happy customers on their profile page but it costs them a ton of money for that safe feeling.
App Guys Inc is right in the middle….we don’t charge as much as the big corporations with multiple employees, downtown tower office space, etc….but we provide just as good services and products. We do charge more then the neighbour’s kid…but we are going to be here as a partner with your company for the long term. We promise not to get bored and as soon as we can start driving, ignore your support requests. :)
Do I believe my profession is who I am or what I do?
I have been involved in the internet development industry for over 18 years now. I also spent 12 years as a Police Officer in Regina SK in various roles - Patrol Constable, Death & Dismemberment, Traffic Collision Investigator, Plain Clothes Detective, Surveillance and Tactical Takedown Team. I enjoyed everything I have done in life and everything always pushed me towards being my own boss and doing what I can to help people.
What would my theme song be?
The Bad Boys Theme song - obviously! ;)
Any advice for other young professionals?
Don’t ever think you are alone. Reach out to local and online networking groups - don’t be afraid to voice up even if you think your issue is “stupid” etc. You will find a solution for your problem with help from someone….that might also turn into a lasting mentor or partner as you grow.
What are you passionate about?
Golf, Camping, being in the mountains and snowboarding. This was my first full year playing on the Alberta Golf Tour and was also the first year I got to experience Heli-Boarding in the Purcell Mountain Range. I am happy I moved to Calgary to launch my latest business and be closer to the mountains so that I can enjoy many of the things I am passionate about.
My favourite place to wine & dine in Calgary is ...
Still being fairly new here, I haven’t been to many places…but the best so far has been Caesar’s Steak House. I love steak and like a restaurant I can relax in and expect good service.
